MOVIES: Repeat Viewing Qualities

DVD Worth Buying?

I currently own around 350 DVDs and must confess to be a complete movie junkie. Every movie outlet is fair game, Renting, Netflix, Theater, TV and my own collection. Overtime I have often thought about what make a movie worthy of buying. It must pass the test of repeat viewing without degradation in holding your attention. Like a poem, song or piece of art, a great movie will continue to inspire and touch you new ways. However, just because a movie is “great” doesn’t mean it will pass this test. Some movie are onetime viewings and you don’t want to repeat the journey. Movies that are more visual, poem-like and profound in story can be illusive at first but after several viewings the full effect begins to sing in. With that being said, some movies are completely off-beat, absurd or cult (for example: Office Space, Napoleon Dynamite) and have an insatiable quality. I am constantly on the lookout for movies that have a timeless quality as I believe film is one of our richest and most powerful mediums.
